Priscilla:

Ivan:

Priscilla:

Ivan:

Priscilla:

Ivan:

Priscilla:

Ivan:
Priscilla:

我們已經完成綁定銷售-〈通過訪問BNIPodcast.com/shows-by-year〉。

Priscilla:

Ivan:
Priscilla

Priscilla:

In business, if you really sit down and think about what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it, you tend to be much more successful. Dr Misner came up with 9 different things to think about when preparing to listen to The Official BNI podcast, and Priscilla adds a suggestion.

BNI Members

  • Listen in your office and take notes (or print the transcripts and highlight them).
  • Listen to the podcasts in your car. Anything you can listen to and learn when you’re in traffic is awesome.
  • Download the podcasts from iTunes and listen to them on your mobile device.
  • Listen to podcasts when you’re doing the dishes, walking the dog, or exercising.

Education Coordinators

  • Education coordinators can provide short summaries of an episode or play a clip from one.
  • Hand out a transcript at a meeting and talk about it.
  • Assign specific podcasts based on what the group needs and discuss them at the next meeting.
  • Use the search function on the BNI Podcast website to find the episodes most relevant to you.
  • Assign podcasts to new members or those who are struggling with part of the BNI program.

BNI Directors

  • BNI Directors should be assigning podcasts to people who are working on developing networking skills.

Some Podcast Stats as of January 2nd, 2018

There are 538 published episodes, minus 78 rebroadcasts = 460 unique episodes.
Each episode is approximately 10 minutes long. 460 x 10 = 4600 minutes, or 76 hours and 40 minutes of listening time–and that’s a conservative estimate.
Listening to every single episode is a marathon task, but you can sort podcasts by category, tag, or series to find the ones that interest you most.
If you have more ideas about how to listen to the BNI Podcast, let us know in the comments. And thank you for listening!

Priscilla:
Hello everybody and welcome back to the Official BNI Podcast, brought to you by the Networking for Success Channel on YouTube, which features Dr. Ivan Miser and many other networking experts. I am Priscilla Rice, and I am coming to you from Live Oak Recording Studio in Berkeley, California. I am joined on the phone today by the Founder and the Chief Visionary Officer of BNI, Dr. Ivan Misner. Hello, Ivan, how are you today?
Ivan:
I am doing fantastic, Priscilla, thank you. We have an interesting topic, I think, today, how to use a BNI Podcast, how to listen to BNI Podcast. I started thinking about it. Sallie Goetsch, the person who manages the BNI Podcast website, answered somebody’s question. She started throwing out some stats. I thought this is interesting. I started thinking about ways people could listen and how you could use the podcast as a result of it. I am going to share those stats with you at the end of this podcast.
I came up with a list of eight different things to think about as you listen to the podcast and what you can do with the podcast. Priscilla, we haven’t talked about this much, but if you have something to add to it, I would love to hear that. I think this is a great podcast to kind of – I have found that in business if you really sit down and think about what you are going to do and how you are going to do it, you will be more successful at doing it. This is kind of contemplating how to effectively use this amazing content.
We have hundreds and hundreds of podcasts, Priscilla, that you and I put together over the years. So here is my list. I have eight. Feel free to add any at the end here.
First, personally, if I were listening to the content, I would listen in my office and take notes. I like taking notes on stuff. That helps me think things through and try to apply them So that is number one for me. I recommend that members listen in their office and take a few notes or at the very least, print out the podcasts. This is one and a half. Print out the podcasts and highlight the things that you find interesting.
The real obvious one, Priscilla, is listen to them in your car. You know, I read BNI in Los Angeles for 30 years. I rode a lot, driving in LA, and the podcasts- anything you can listen to and learn in traffic is awesome, so listening to them in the car is number two.
Number three is a lot of people don’t know you can download the podcasts on iTunes. So listen to them on your device. I have a friend, Tony, in San Demis who downloads them on his mobile device and listens to them in his car as he is driving or plays them at his office or he plays them in between meetings. So downloading them on iTunes is number three.
Number four, Education Coordinators, I think this is the perfect tool for them. They can do summaries of the podcast. I have even heard of some Education Coordinators playing a short segment. You know, the podcasts are ten to twelve minutes or so. You can’t play the whole podcast, but you might play a little segment out of it. I have seen Education Coordinators do that.
Number five is to hand out the transcript at the meeting. Talk about it. Have people review and talk about different elements of it. I think that is a great way to do it as you are going over the podcast. Of course, you can assign a specific podcast based on the information you need. So figure out what the chapter needs and assign specific podcasts for dialogue at a BNI meeting.
There is a function on the podcast that you can play around with. That is the search function. The search function will help really hone down your search for any particular topic that you are looking for. How do I invite visitors or networking techniques or some particular topic. The search function is – oftentimes, a lot of people ask, ” Do you have a podcast on [such and such]?” I say, “Did you do a search?” “No.” “Well, that is what I would do.” “Yeah?” Yeah. That is what I would do. The search function is number seven.
Number eight, assign podcasts to your members. You may be mentoring a member. If a member is struggling with something, a podcast can help. Or if they are just new to BNI and they need some ideas or techniques more effectively, assign the podcast.
I am going to add a ninth one. I just thought of this one for BNI Director Consultants and Directors. Directors should be assigning podcasts for people they are working with leadership teams as well. Assigning podcasts just like a mentor would to people developing their networking skills.
Those are the eight or nine I came up with, Priscilla. Can you think of any effective uses for the podcast?
Priscilla:
You know, I do listen to the podcasts on my mobile device and I do suggest that you can listen to podcasts when you are just doing the dishes or you are doing something mundane that doesn’t take your full attention. It really opens your mind to ideas.
Ivan:
That is a great suggestion. Listen to the podcast while you are doing the dishes or doing something mundane. You can listen to podcasts if you are walking on a treadmill or walking in the neighborhood. That is a great one. Good suggestion.
Priscilla:
They are not that long that you can actually get a whole one in a short period of time, or several if you are on the treadmill.
Ivan:
If you have another one, feel free to share it. I want to share Sallie’s content in a second. If you are listening to this podcast, I want you to post your ideas. We just came up with nine or ten. If you have an idea on how to use the podcast effectively at BNI, post it up here. I would love to see it. Do you have any others, Priscilla?
Priscilla:
I just think it is a real opportunity to listen to them in general to hear what you have to say, so- I mean. It is such a dynamic glowing resource, basically, so I just encourage everybody to listen to them.
Ivan:
So we have a member, Carl, who asked a question that Sallie Goetsch happened to answer. Again, Sallie is the person who manages BNI Podcast website. This was her response, Priscilla:
“I am dusting off my grade school math. The podcasts are roughly ten minutes.” I thought everyone listening to this might find this interesting. I certainly did. “The podcasts are roughly ten minutes, usually a little longer. There are over 540 published episodes, but according to her trusty episode spreadsheet, 78 of them are rebroadcast.” By the way, we rebroadcast classic ones because they are great content and I had been concerned they would get buried. Podcast number 97. Who is going to go back? So we rebroadcast some of the classics. “78 of them are rebroadcast. We have 540-78 for a total of 462 unique podcasts. If you multiply that by 10 – which is conservative. by the way – you have 4,620 minutes of podcasts. 77 hours of listening. I wouldn’t recommend staying awake for three days to do that.” Yes, I would agree with that, Sallie.”Put it another way, if you listened to two a day, it would take over 230 days to hear all of the current episodes. Forget about the new ones coming out.” Just the current episodes.
230 days for just the current episodes. Wow. That is just mind boggling. The bank of information that we have created is amazing. If you are listening to this, share with your BNI members if they are not listening to this podcast, they need to come over and check it out because there is some fantastic content.
Let me wrap up by saying, however, in response to Carl’s question all the podcasts contain terrific information. You might want to listen to episodes on certain topics first. Then go back and fill things in. Most episodes are independent so you can listen to them on your own. You can sort the episodes by category, tag or series, as well as search. You can [sort by] category, tag or series and get list of shows based on that. The categories list is on the side bar.
Here is the last thing she said, which I think is important. “You may wish to download some of the bundles of episodes.” We have done bundles “-by going to BNIPodcast.com/shows-by-year.” We will put the link actually in this podcast so you can go there and get bundles.
So great content and thanks for your addition, Priscilla. Sallie, we have never talked about you on the podcast. It is about time. Thank you for that addition. If you have some ideas on how to effectively use BNI Podcast, please share them with us here on the comments section.
Thanks a lot, Priscilla. Back to you.
Priscilla:
Last of all, I just want to say thank you all for being listeners because we do it for you and it is just wonderful to have you out there.
Ivan:
It is, and I am glad you just added that in, Priscilla.
Priscilla:
Okay, well, that is it for this week. Thank you so much, Dr. Misner for bringing this little topic up. I would just like to remind the listeners that this podcast has been brought to you by the Networking for Success Channel on YouTube. Thank you for listening. This is Priscilla Rice and we look forward to having you join us again next week for another exciting episode of the Official BNI Podcast.
